A royal flush is the best possible poker hand, and it can’t be beaten. This combination of cards is extremely rare, but what do you need to know about it to get started?

So, what is a royal flush? Here is a good guide on what it is and what are the chances of getting it during a game.

What Is a Royal Flush?

In poker, a straight flush is where a player has five consecutive cards in the same suit. The better the highest-ranking card, the more powerful a flush becomes.

Therefore, the very best kind of flush is one where you get an ace, king, queen, jack, and a ten, all of the same suit.

This is an unbeatable combination, and since it’s so rare, you’ll feel completely confident about winning any hand in which you get it.

In fact, most people will never have a royal flush in their hand, even if they play thousands of poker games over many years.

The odds of getting these five cards at the same time have been calculated at greater than 649,000 to 1.

We’ve seen this hand a few times in big poker tournaments in the past, on Bovada website, for example, but it retains a magical allure that makes it the hand we all want to see.

How Many Ways Are There You Can Get a Royal Flush?

Since a royal flush can be completed on any of the suits in a deck of cards, there are four different ways of doing this.

You can get a royal flush on clubs, diamonds, spades, or hearts. Is one type of royal flush better than another? What would happen in the extremely unlikely event that two players have royal flushes on different suits in the same game?

This would be one of the most remarkable hands of poker in the history of the game, as the odds of it happening is over a million to one.

How hard is it to get a royal flush

Theoretically, all four types of royal flush could appear in one game in certain poker variants, but it’s virtually impossible in real life.

We need to look at the different versions to see which ones could have more than one flush at the same time.

For example, it could happen in seven-card stud but not in a game where a player’s five-card hand includes a couple of community cards, as these community cards will be of the same suit for all of the players around the table.

If the community cards are the KQ, then the only possible royal flush is the one in diamonds.

On the other hand, if each player has five unique cards, then they could each look to form this powerful hand on different suits.

Draw games where you can discard unwanted cards help you to try and get a royal flush, as they give you a chance to focus on your goal and get rid of anything that doesn’t fit. That still doesn’t make it easy, though.

Going back to the original question, you might have seen some information online that suggests that the different suits can be placed in order, with some of them regarded as stronger than others.

However, this isn’t true unless you’re playing at a table where this specific rule is in force.

In all other cases, any royal flush is as good as any other, as each suit is considered equal to the others.

The rules for a flush are simple – the highest card wins. So if two players each have a royal flush on different suits, they can’t be ranked, and the pot is simply split between them.

You might not have seen the poker variant known as Royal Hold’em before, but it’s the best game for getting a royal flush.

Only 20 cards are used, with everything except the kings, queens, jacks, tens, and aces taken out. This increases the chance of getting a royal flush to about 1 in 1200.

What to Do with a Royal Flush?

Imagine the excitement you would feel if you landed a royal flush as you played. It could be the only time in your life that you hold this fabled combination of cards in your hand, and you’ll want to make the most of it.

Of course, the first thing you’ll want to avoid is showing any emotion, which can be extremely difficult to do if you get this once-in-a-lifetime hand.

Do suits play a role in a royal flush

If you’re playing online poker, this isn’t a problem, but keeping the smile off your face when playing around a real-life table might be a problem.

If you’re playing video poker, you’ll get a fixed payout, which is usually the biggest prize in the game. For games against other players, you’ll want to press home your advantage by trying to claim as big a pot as possible.

Getting a royal flush is a moment to savor, and you’ll be hoping to win a lot of money on it too, so enjoy the moment and the feeling of having an unbeatable hand.
