Whether you’re an amateur blackjack player tired of stringing bad sessions or a more skilled gambler looking for consistent success, there are always ways you can improve your results at the blackjack table.

We’ve summed up eight simple but effective tips that will help you become a more successful blackjack player.

1. Learn All the Basics

This might seem like an obvious first tip, but it’s something you should never overlook, especially if you’re still a beginner.

Although it involves a significant luck element, blackjack is far from a guessing game. Since the game has been around, mathematicians have tried to find the optimal way of playing for every possible combination.

When you learn all of the basics, you can be confident that you’re playing optimally. In return, this means you’ll lower the house edge to less than one percent, giving you the best chances for long-term success.

This is why you should make sure you learn all of the basics before you sit down at the blackjack table.

2. Don’t Overthink Your Strategy

Even though you should memorize a good lineup of blackjack strategies, you don’t need to think too much while playing the game.

Blackjack offers some of the best odds of all onine casino games around and is straightforward to play. It is also readily available at many online casinos, including, which features many different live and electronic game variations.

With that in mind, don’t try to experiment with unorthodox strategies too much or overthink every move you make. Playing by the book gives you the best winning chances, so there's no reason to stray away from it.

3. Don’t Shy Away From Using a Cheat Sheet

When you’re playing for real money, you shouldn’t be too proud to use every permitted tool to increase your winning chances.

One of the best tools you can use is a cheat sheet. That said, many blackjack players avoid using a cheat sheet at the table because they are too self-conscious that they will look silly for doing so.

But, again, when you have real money on the line, your bankroll is the most important thing to think about.

Even more skilled players need to resort to a cheat sheet from time to time, simply because there are so many possible combinations.

One thing no blackjack player can argue with is successful results at the table, and a cheat sheet is a helpful tool for achieving them.

4. Set a Budget You’ll Stick With

Setting a blackjack budget you will play by won’t make you a better player, but it will help you win more at the game.

When you have a limit, you know when you should stop playing and avoid unnecessarily chasing wins.

In line with that, it’s good to have not only a maximum spending limit but also a winning one. That way, when you hit the top limit, you’ll collect your winnings and quit your session on a high point.

Maximizing the efficiency with which you place your bets will provide you with the best value for your money and, in exchange, make you the most money over an extended period.

5. Look For Blackjack Games With Specific Rules

The key to winning more in blackjack is putting yourself in a place where you have the best odds.

Taking this into account, you should ideally play only at the blackjack tables that offer you the most player-friendly rules.

Preferably, you should always play at blackjack tables that pay out 3:2 over those that pay out 6:5.

Additionally, look for blackjack games with as few card decks as possible. A single or double-deck blackjack game offers you much more favorable odds than a six or eight-deck game with the same rules.

6. Don’t Make Insurance Wagers

The insurance bet looks like a good, player-friendly bet to make if you want to ensure your bet on specific occasions. But, although it may be tempting to place this side bet, it’s actually a sucker bet.

Avoid blackjack insurance

The reasoning behind this is simple – you’re not getting good value for your money. A winning insurance bet pays out 2:1, but your odds of winning are worse than 2:1.

7. Disregard Other Players

Blackjack is not a team game, as every player is playing for themselves. With that in mind, you're not responsible for other players' decisions and winnings, only for yours.

It doesn’t matter what bets they’ll make or how much they will win or lose. Unlike in poker, your odds of winning remain the same.

Considering all of this, the only thing you should be focusing on is your next move. Don’t dwell on previous sessions, and by all means, don't get caught up in conversation with other players at the table.

Be polite with everyone but remember, when it’s time to make a decision, you need your concentration, and you should only think about what’s best for you.
