888poker has gotten off to a great start in 2024 with its schedule of live events. The first couple of events took place in Madrid and Bucharest, attracting big fields and creating proper poker spectacles.

Now, the operator is back in Spain, this time around visiting the beautiful city of Barcelona. The action kicked off at Casino Barcelona on May 8, with the first few side events to get the ball rolling.

Like every time, 888poker has brought out the full team, with numerous ambassadors joining the action at the tables, rubbing shoulders with other pros, eager locals, and, of course, numerous qualifiers who made their way to Barcelona via online satellites.

Affordable Schedule for All Poker Enthusiasts

Oftentimes, big live events are out of reach for your average poker fan simply because they cost too much money to enter. While a few hundred or even a few thousand euros isn’t a major consideration for pro players, those who enjoy the game as a hobby simply can’t afford it.

With its Barcelona event, 888poker has clearly considered and recognized this fact, creating a schedule that doesn’t exclude anyone.

The Opening Day event features a reasonable buy-in of €220 and multiple Day 1 flights running until Sunday, May 12. With this setup, the tournament stands to create a large prize pool while allowing many players to take their shots over the course of several days.

On top of this, there are numerous satellites running to the Opening Day, costing only around €50 to enter, making the event even more affordable.

The Mystery Bountyevent, taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday, features a buy-in of €330,with €150 going to the knockout pool. It is another very affordable tournament that gives players a chance to experience the excitement of the mystery bounty format without breaking the bank.

Scattered throughout the schedule are single-day events with even lower buy-ins, many of them costing less than €100 to enter.

Considering the venue and the quality of live events hosted by 888poker, this is really great to see, demonstrating that the operator is focused primarily on providing players with a great experience and make give pretty much everyone to a chance to get involved and get a taste of this experience.

Main Event Action Around the Corner

Although the Barcelona festival has been going on for a few days now, it is still in what we could call a warm-up stage. The €888 Main Event will get underway on Thursday, May 16, with Day 1A. Leading up to it, there are many live satellites happening on-site, with a price tag of just €88.

Of course, there will be many players in the Main Event field who won their seats via online qualifiers. Over the previous weeks, 888poker was offering special $109 satellites, which awarded packages consisting of a Main Event seat and over $800 in travel/accommodation money.

The Main Event will feature a total of four starting days, leading up to Day 2 kicking off in the afternoon of Sunday, May 19. Players can enter the tournament until the first hand is dealt on Day 2.

All tournaments on the schedule, including the Main Event, come with unlimited reentries. While there is a constant debate going on if this is actually good for poker, with most tournaments featuring very affordable buy-ins, most players making their way to Casino Barcelona will probably appreciate the fact they can jump right back in after going out on a nasty bad beat or a cooler.

Plenty of Play Remaining

If you were considering visiting Barcelona for the 888poker event but thought you missed the train on this one, the good news is that there is still plenty of action left.

The Main Event will not get underway for a few more days, and the remainder of the schedule is filled with a great mix of single-day tournaments to keep you busy.

On Monday, May 13, there are two tournaments on the docket, with buy-ins of €165 and €100, respectively. There is nothing else happening on that day, so it’s a great way to get a feel for cards and chips and get in the right mind frame for the Main.

The following day, May 14, will see the €330 Mystery Bounty event get underway, and we expect this one to be a lot of fun. If you enjoy action and playing a lot of hands, you won’t be disappointed, especially if you make it to the bounty stage.

Are you looking for some deep stack action instead and want to get plenty of play for your money? Then check out the €200 The Voyage event on May 15, where you’ll get to start with a stack of 88,000!

The bottom line is that you’ll struggle to find a live festival offering better value for money. This time around, 888poker has really gone out of its way to make things very accessible and player-friendly, so the last-minute journey to the Catalonia capital might just be warranted.
