888poker has kicked off its live tournament schedule for 2024 in style, with an exciting series in Madrid, Spain. The Main Event attracted just short of 500 entries and it was a great sign of things to come for the rest of the year.
A few days ago, 888poker ambassadors and players from all over Europe descended on Bucharest, marking the start of the second live stop of the year.
Taking place at Poker Room Bucharest, the festival features a rich schedule of affordable tournaments, culminating in the €560 Main Event that got underway today.
Players have already had a chance to enjoy some fun tournaments, including the €220 Opening Event, €220 Mystery Bounty, and even the €65 Mini Shot Turbo, which must be one of the most affordable tournaments at big live series.
It’s the Main Event Time in Romania
With several side events in the books, the whole attention will now shift to the €560 Main Event. The tournament features three regular and one turbo starting flight on March 20, 21, and 22.
Players will get plenty of play for their buy-ins, starting with 50,000 in chips and enjoying 45-minute levels throughout the event. Those who make it to the final table will see level times increased further to a full hour.
From Day 2 onwards, there will be a 30-second shot-clock in play, which means players will have 30 seconds to make their decision on any given street, with several time extensions available. This should help move the action along nicely and prevent unnecessary tanking.
Although there is no guarantee placed on the tournament, there is no doubt there will be a good turnout between those who qualified online and players registering on the spot.
Last year’s event took place in August and featured a total of 191 entries, but the buy-in was €888. With the price of admission significantly reduced for 2024 and four starting flights, we’ll likely see a much bigger number on the tournament screen by the time the registration is done.
A Few More Chances for Trophies
With the Main Event starting, there won’t be too much side action happening, but there are still a few tournaments remaining on the 888poker LIVE Bucharest docket.
On Thursday, March 21, players can get involved with the €88 Voyage event. Featuring 15-minute levels, this is what would be known as a hyper turbo in the online world, but with such a low barrier to entry and unlimited reentries, it should be a lot of fun.
Saturday, March 23, brings two interesting events. The €330 Big Shot should generate a decent prize pool, while the €1,100 High Roller is there for those with slightly bigger bankrolls.
Finally, 888poker will say goodbye to Romania’s capital with the €100 Closer event taking place on Sunday, March 24.
Experience the Magic of Little Paris off the Felt
Bucharest is a city with a rich and interesting history and much to offer apart from the excitement on the felt. The city is nicknamed Little Paris because following the Great Fire of 1847, which destroyed nearly 2,000 buildings, it was rebuilt, taking inspiration from Parisian architecture.
Busting a tournament is never fun, but at least you’ll have plenty to do to keep you busy until the next event. If you are a fan of architectural wonders, the city’s Parliament Palace is the second-largest building in the world (after the Pentagon).
There are several museums worth visiting in Bucharest as well, and some really nice parks where you can get a much-needed change of scenery and recharge your batteries.
If your definition of entertainment Is more in terms of bars, clubs, and nightlife, the Romanian capital does not disappoint. There are plenty of spots for all the different tastes out there, and you’ll find that prices are more than reasonable compared to most European countries.
All in all, Bucharest represents a great spot on the 888poker LIVE calendar, and we hope it will remain one of the regular destinations for the years to come. With affordable tournaments situated in this mesmerizing city filled with all types of entertainment options, it’s the perfect place for a poker vacation that you’ll remember for a long time.
