The New Year Series over at PokerStars is coming to a head this weekend, with all three Main Events playing out on Sunday, Jan 12.
In case you somehow missed it, these three tournaments feature $3,000,000 in combined guarantees, and, to make things even better, these guarantees are distributed equally, with each Main promising at least $1,000,000 in prize money.
The three Main Events have three different buy-in levels, so all players are invited to get in on the action. For those looking to start their new year on a strong note, making a final table in one of these tournaments would certainly be a major step in the right direction.
Millions up for Grabs
The PokerStars New Year Series Main Event action kicks off on Sunday evening. If you can’t make the start of the tournament(s), you don’t have to sweat it, as all three Main Events have long late registration periods.
In addition to different buy-ins, every tournament has its own twist, adding some extra excitement on top of big guarantees:
- $109 Main Event-L – played in a mystery bounty format with a $100k top bounty
- $1,050 Main Event-M – a progressive knockout tournament promising a lot of action
- $5,200 Main Event-H – traditional freezeout (with reentries) featuring 20-minute levels
All three tournaments will be two-day affairs, so if you plan on playing, keep that at the back of your mind. You might need to put some time aside on Monday, Jan 13, when tournaments will play down to their respective winners, but this is a good problem to have.
Events have different break points. The low version will stop after eight hours of play. For the Main Event Medium, players will go on a break once they reach the money. Finally, the biggest buy-in one will stop once there are 16 players remaining as this one probably won’t have a massive field.
Event #1 Wraps Up Next Week
In addition to Main Events, the New Year Series features another $1M-guaranteed tournament, and this one is even more affordable, featuring a buy-in of just $55.
The tournament in question is Event #1, which plays out in two phases. Phase 1s run around the clock on PokerStars, so you can jump straight into the action pretty much whenever you feel like it.
Phase 2 is scheduled for Monday, Jan 13, and everyone who manages to secure their seat via Phase 1 will come together to play down to 36 players. At that point, the tournament will break, and those remaining will come back on Jan 14 to find the winner.
Event #1 is played in the progressive knockout (PKO) format as well, so there is money to be won along the way, and many players coming into Phase 2 will already be up on their buy-in and looking to put their chips to further good use.
There are still plenty of last-minute satellites running for Main Events, so if you’re looking to get in on a discount, head over to PokerStars right now and get in the mix. It’s the best way to start your poker journey in 2025!
