Anyone who’s roamed the section of the Wynn where the 2024 WPT World Championship is taking place has certainly noticed a shiny golden car – it’s very hard to miss!
The car in question, a 2025 McLaren GTS, worth quarter of a million dollars, was a part of a special giveaway set up by ClubWPT Gold alongside its massive freeroll, and today, it has found its winner.
The proud owner is one Richard Lord, a professional magician, who drew one of the three envelopes giving him entry into a big golden draw where, in addition to the $250k car, there was also $50,000 in cash up for grabs.
Big Moment Unfolds
Just moments ago, three lucky winners took their place on the big stage, where each of them got to pick an envelope, knowing that they had one-in-three chance of picking up the golden vehicle that looks like something out of a James Bond movie.
To create suspense, all three opened their envelopes at the same time, and only seconds later, Richard let out the scream of joy as it was his envelope containing the main prize.
Despite his day job, there was no sleight of hand involved. It was good, old Lady Luck shining her favor upon Richard Lord. It is fitting, after all, that someone with this surname to drive around in a golden car.
The other two winners still had plenty to look forward to, as there was a cash booth waiting for them, filled with $50,000. One of them went in to try and catch as much as possible. The other one would get whatever was left after 30 seconds of frantic money chasing.
As luck would have it, the person going into the booth walked out with $24,800, leaving just a bit more than that behind, so they ended up splitting the prize money.
What of the Golden Vehicle?
To say Richard Lord was beside himself after winning the big prize would be an understatement. But as shocked as he was after opening the winning envelope, real emotions came about when he walked over to the car and got to sit in it, realizing that it was, in fact, his to keep.
Talking to the press, he explained that until the very last moment, he thought that the whole thing would fall through somehow and that someone was about to reach out at any moment to let him know that there was a mistake.
He jokingly said that the new car is quite an upgrade on his current driving situation, as it is some 15 years newer and about $245,000 more expensive.
Whether Richard is actually going to keep the car and drive it? Everything is in the cards, but he says that he’d like to at least take it for a spin, even if it turns out he wouldn’t be able to keep it for the long term.
It must feel especially good for a man whose job is to make magic happen to have some magic happen to him and enjoy what was probably one of the best moments of his life.
