Steve O’Dwyer had a seemingly average life growing up. He was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado and attended East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.

He studied science in Communication and went on to receive his bachelors before he found a job in the broadcasting industry where he held a career for a while.

However, shortly after this, O’Dwyer was inspired by watching Chris Moneymaker on TV in the 2003 World Series of Poker.

While he had played little poker at $5 home games on campus at college, the first real move O’Dwyer made into the poker world was when he began playing online in freeroll tournaments in 2004.

After this, he attended his first World Series of Poker Event in 2007 where he cashed four times for $70,000. He now calls Ireland home; however he regularly plays in poker events across the world.

He also earned $1,300,000 for taking second in the 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS; and $1,088,783 for winning the 2017 PokerStars Championship Macau Super High Roller.

It is said that O’Dwyer was severely affected by the events of ‘Black Friday’, in which three major poker sites were shut down by the US government.

During this time, he was affected financially and had to seek help from other poker players during the 2011 World Series of Poker, where he even borrowed money for food.

Further afield, O’Dywer competed in his first event in Spain in 2022 at the PartyPoker Live Millions Europe Main Event. The event was held in Barcelona and O’Dwyer emerged on top, winning the first prize of 250,000 Euros.
