Live Poker in 2021: DeepStack Extravaganza Kicks Off at Venetian
Last Updated: August 19, 2021
The Card Player Poker Tour is back to the Venetian for the ninth time. Having started back in 2013, the tournament series has grown over the years, having awarded more than $12,000,000 over the past eight Main Events alone.
The DeepStack Extravaganza I 2021 will feature a total of 35 events running throughout February, guaranteeing more than $2,000,000 in prizes.
The highlight of the series is, of course, the $2,500 Texas Hold’em Main Event, featuring a nice guarantee of $500,000, which will likely be shattered. The Main Event is set to kick off on February 19, and the winner will be crowned on February 22.
A Variety of Buy-ins & Game Formats
With three dozen events taking place over the next few weeks, the series will feature something for everyone. There are regular freezeouts, bounty tournaments, survivor events, and much more.
For those looking to get the most play for their buy-in, the 2021 Card Player DeepStack Extravaganza I offers several tournaments dubbed “Monster” and “Ultra” stack, which means you’ll get plenty of chips to work with.
On top of Hold’em events, players will also get to try their skills in several Pot Limit Omaha and Pot Limit Omaha Eight or Better tournaments.
The buy-in range of the 2021 CPPT is also quite wide. There are plenty of events in the few-hundred range ($200 and $300), alongside several more expensive tournaments. So, even those with smaller bankrolls or just looking to play for fun can get the taste of the series.
DeepStack Extravaganza I Highlight Events
The $2,500 Main Event is the biggest tournament of the series and the one that'll likely generate the most interest. For those looking to get their seat cheaper, there are many satellites running over the next couple of weeks, offering a chance to qualify for $200 or $300.
Another highlight tournament of the DeepStack Extravaganza I is the $1,100 Mid-States Poker Tour Main Event, featuring a guaranteed prize pool of $350,000. The tournament will run from February 4 to 6.
Apart from these two, there are quite a few events worth checking out as they offer great value for money:
- $400 Monster Stack featuring $80,000 guarantee on February 8
- $300,000 Ultimate Stack tournament on February 11 ($800 buy-in)
- $400 PLO Monster Stack on February 21 ($40,000 guarantee)
- $600 Ultimate Stack with $200,000 guaranteed on February 25
Those looking to play some tournaments will get to enjoy the Venetian poker room's great atmosphere and compete for some serious money across a variety of events.
Live Poker Coming Back in 2021?
The DeepStack Extravaganza I at the Venetian is a pretty big deal, and not just because of the $2,000,000 prize pool up for grabs.
It could be the sign of things to come for live poker in 2021.
2020 was a horrible year for live games as all major tournaments and series were either canceled or moved online. The Coronavirus pandemic changed everything, and live poker was pretty much a no-go.
It seems that things are finally getting back on track, though.
If the series goes as planned, it could encourage other venues and organizers to start hosting live tournaments as well and, slowly but surely, bring the poker circuit back to life.
With the vaccination process currently underway, we could see the World Series of Poker come back to the live setting in 2021, which is something that many players around the globe are looking forward to.
Of course, it’s still early for too much enthusiasm. If 2020 has taught us anything is that nothing is guaranteed and that things can quickly change for the worse.
But, for the time being, prospects are looking good for live poker, and we can only hope that this trend continues moving forward and pick up some speed in the months to come.
