The PokerStars New Year Series is heating up. Many events have already found their winners and paid big prizes, but the most exciting tournaments are yet to come!
For those willing to take things a bit slower for New Year’s Eve and come back to their grinding stations on the first day of 2025, the operator has prepared three New Year Specials with a combined prize pool of $1.2 million.
It goes without saying that it takes some real dedication to the game to get right in the swing of things on Jan 1, but those who do it will be competing for big amounts and a deep run in one of these tournaments could mark a start of an epic New Year for at least a handful of players.

PokerStars will be hosting three New Year Special events on Wednesday, Jan 1 2025, and like with the rest of the New Year Series, these offer three different buy-in levels.
- Event #66-L – $20.25 New Year Special with $250k guaranteed
- Event #66-M – $202.25 New Year Special with $500k guaranteed
- Event #66-H – $2,025 New Year Special with $300k guaranteed
All three tournaments will be two-day affairs, so those who decide to join the action should be prepared for a long grind. That said, time and effort will be handsomely rewarded with even the lowest of the three events guaranteeing to pay out at least a quarter of a million.
As is common, these specials will kick off at the exact same time on Wednesday, so players can easily play one, two, or all three simultaneously. Of course, the High event might be out of most players’ budgets, but the other two are certainly within reach.
The action will be fairly slow, allowing for plenty of play. In the Low event, blind levels are set at 12 minutes, increasing to 15 minutes for the Medium version and 30 minutes for the most expensive one.
Reentries are allowed during the late registration period but limited to five (for the Low event), four (for the Medium), and three (for the High). Players in Low and Medium New Year Specials will play for eight hours before breaking for the day, while the High event will break once the money bubble bursts.
Other New Year’s Day Action on Offer
For those who simply aren’t happy to play just a couple of tournaments, there is plenty more on offer for the first day of 2025.
Event #68 – The Copacabana – Mystery Bounty Edition starts about an hour and a half after Specials kick off, and these tournaments should be a lot of fun to play. Buy-in for the low orbit is just $5.50, and the guarantee is $35,000. As usual, mystery bounties kick in once players are in the money.
For fans of Zoom poker, there is a special event with only one buy-in tier. This is Event #69 – Bounty Quads PKO. It features a buy-in of $22 and a very solid guarantee of $30,000.
Provided you can handle it after celebrations the evening before, there are also three 2-7 Single Draw tournaments on the docket. These have smaller guarantees and are certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, but there are a fair few players out there who’ll probably jump at the opportunity.
All in all, PokerStars is kicking off the New Year in style with some quality MTT action to warm up your grinding engines. The only question is, are you ready to kick things off with a bang and set the right tone for 2025?
