A hard 8 is when both dice show the number 4, which adds up to an 8. It is called “hard” because the same number appears on both dice. According to craps rules, there are 5 ways to roll an 8 in craps. The other four are known as easy 8s, while the pair of 4s is known as the hard 8. It is called hard because it is hard for the shooter to throw dice which show equal value on both dice. The other ways players can make an 8 are 6-2, 2-6, 5-3, and 3-5.
