Last Updated: October 21, 2024
There is a brand new tool out there, developed by Pokercoaching.com, to give players an opportunity to master the GTO strategy. Called PeakGTO, the app is completely free at the moment and offers everything you’d find in other solvers that usually come with a hefty price tag. Check it out yourself!
In today’s poker environment, mastering GTO is a must for any player looking to move up the stakes. As your average buy-in increases, so does the level of competition, and you’ll come across more competent opponents.
The only way to counter this is by mastering the strategy yourself before adding subtle adjustments and exploits. With PeakGTO, you can achieve this goal with ease, as the tool offers everything you need and is designed so that even someone relatively new to poker can use it.
PeakGTO in a Nutshell
Pokercoaching.com’s PeakGTO is a poker solver, i.e., a tool that provides information about mathematically best plays in any given spot. You can use it to solve all sorts of preflop scenarios as well as different postflop spots against a single opponent.
The app features two main sections, namely:
- Library – containing presolved solutions for a variety of preflop & flop scenarios
- Trainer – allowing you to set up a situation and play through hands, with instant feedback about your decisions
As mentioned, PeakGTO features a very intuitive user interface, so even if you have little experience with solvers, you’ll be able to use the tool effectively.
The PeakGTO Library
Pokercoaching.com has done an excellent job with the library section of its GTO tool, offering a wide range of presolved scenarios for a variety of stack depths.
The tool is set up for 8-handed play, and you can choose between MTT and cash game modes. The MTT mode offers a range of stack depths, starting with just two big blinds all the way up to 100. This allows you to check solutions for a variety of situations, from extremely short-stacked scenarios to deep play.
For cash games, there are two standard options: 100 big blinds and 200 big blinds.
Once you input the main parameters, you can easily select actions for every position at the table, while the graph changes to give you an overview of hands that should be calling, raising, and folding according to GTO.
PeakGTO also offers solutions for postflop play, but only in heads-up pots. So, if you set up a scenario where only two players progress to the flop, you’ll be able to input the community cards and see what hands want to check, bet, and raise on that flop.
This is a great way to analyze specific hands and see if your play was in line with the GTO strategy, but you can also utilize the tool to improve your understanding of different board textures.
If you’re new to solvers, you’ll notice that some hands on graphs contain two or even colors. The green color stands for calling, red is for raising, and blue is for folding. So, if there are multiple colors, this means that the particular hand can:
- Call a certain percentage & raise a certain percentage (green + red)
- Sometimes call & sometimes fold (green + blue)
- Raise, call, or fold (red + green + blue)
When you hover over a particular hand, the panel on the left side provides a further breakdown. For example, if it is a hand that you sometimes call with and sometimes fold, the left panel will provide you with the overview of combinations that fall into the calling and folding categories.
Once again, the interface is pretty self-explanatory if you understand the basic premise of GTO in poker, so after spending a few times using PeakGTO, you’ll get the hang of it.
Learning With the PeakGTO Trainer
If you prefer a more hands-on approach, you’ll love the PeakGTO Trainer tool. It allows you to set up different scenarios and then play through them. Once you set up a spot, you’ll be dealt different hands and asked to make your decision.
After deciding, you’ll be provided with feedback on how that decision relates to the GTO strategy.
The Trainer features a variety of options. You can choose between tournaments and cash games, with stack depths ranging from 10 to 100 big blinds.
The tool is designed exclusively for heads-up spots, so you choose the stack depth, the Villain’s position and action, and your position.
For example, if you wanted to improve your big blind play against a hijack when playing with the stack of around 25 big blinds, you’d select:
- Game mode: Full Hand
- Game type: Tournaments
- Seats: Hero – big blind, Villain – hijack
- Stack size: 25BB
- Preflop action: vs. RFI
Now, you can click ‘Start’ to begin your training. The software will generate hands for you, and you’ll have to choose your action from four different options, namely calling, folding, raising, and moving all in.
If you don’t end up in a preflop all-in, you’ll proceed to the flop, where you’ll have to make your decision again (check, bet small, or move all-in).
Your every action is evaluated, and you’ll receive instant feedback in terms of how the decision correlates with the best GTO move (expressed as a percentage).
If you’re more interested in learning postflop scenarios, you can do that as well by setting up a specific flop as your starting point!
Do You Need PeakGTO?
When it comes to poker at the highest level, all players agree that GTO is the best approach as it makes you completely indifferent to opponents’ actions. Against tough players that you don’t expect to have an edge over, this is the way to go.
Learning the GTO strategy, however, is challenging, and many players are deterred by the size of the task. And we’d lie if we said it’s easy.
That said, PeakGTO is definitely one of the most player-friendly tools you’ll find out there. It is quick, simple, and very intuitive, and the Trainer allows you to fine-tune your game and practice very specific spots that you feel need work.
To top it all off, Pokercoaching.com’s PeakGTO is completely free for the time being. This might change in the future, so you should definitely take advantage of this opportunity to master GTO and take your poker game to a whole new level with a no-nonsense app that makes learning not only easy but also fun.
