Burn

The burn, more commonly known as the burn card, is the top face-down card from the undealt portion of the deck that is removed before a deal. The dealer burns every top card before the flop, turn, and river. This practice dates back to early poker days and is done to prevent cheating through marked cards.

Burn Poker Example:

After dealing the players’ hole cards and the pre-flop betting is complete, the dealer will burn the top card and deal the flop. They will repeat this action before unveiling the turn and river cards.
