Check Raise

A check-raise is a deceptive play in poker in which a player initially checks but then raises when the action comes back to him if another player decides to bet. The check-raise can be a very valuable weapon in a poker player’s arsenal and can be used with a strong hand to extract more value or as a bluff to force your opponent to fold a better hand.

Poker Check Raise Example:

If you raise preflop with pocket nines and the flop comes J95, you might decide to check with the intention of check-raising if your opponent bets to build a bigger pot.
