What is a Dog in Poker?
The term dog in poker is a more succinct way of saying underdog and refers to a player that is not favored to win the hand. This doesn’t have to be the product of their bad decisions but simply the result of the weaker cards that they received.
Dog Poker Example:
Let’s say you have a high pair like K K while your opponent has a low pair like 3 3 before the flop. At this stage, the chances of you winning the hand and heavily in your favor at 80%. This makes your opponent the “dog”, as they only have a 20% winning chance.
