Isolating in poker is the action of raising pre-flop with the intention to eliminate all but one player and going heads-up against this remaining opponent. This can be a very effective strategy for singling out a weak player, but it can also negatively impact the player’s bottom line if they fail to isolate properly.
Isolate Poker Example:
Let’s say you identified a weak-tight player who open limps from UTG. You raise from the hijack position. Everyone else folds, enabling you to isolate the UTG player so you can play them heads-up post-flop in position.
