Laydown

The poker term laydown is another word for folding a hand. Typically, the phrase “laydown” is used to describe a tough decision to fold a relatively strong hand based on careful evaluation. Knowing when to lay down your hand can be a valuable skill, as every player has to face such decisions every once in a while.

Laydown Poker Example:

Let’s say you have a 9 5 hand, your opponent has a 3 2 hand, and the board reads 6 4 3 3 2. Even though you have a straight, the other player has a full house, so the best decision in this scenario would be to make a laydown.
