Railbird

A railbird in poker is a person who watches the games from the rail instead of playing them. Unlucky losers, those who don’t have money to play, and fans who want to watch other players, socialize in this physically separated area and watch others play. This term has a somewhat derogatory connotation, as most poker players see railbirds as a nuisance. In online poker, the chat box is often called the rail.

Railbird Poker Example:

For instance, some casinos will simply separate the player area from the railbirds by a metal railing. In larger casinos and separate poker rooms, you can also find independent viewing areas, as the action will occur on the casino floor while the viewing area will be elevated so that railbirds have a better view of the action.
