Learn What Is Under The Gun In Poker

In poker, the term “Under The Gun” refers to the first position at the poker table after the blinds.

The UTG player is the first player to act after the cards have been dealt, and because of this, the players usually have the tightest range from this position. Raises from the UTG are treated with more respect than raises from any other position at the poker table.

Players play fewer poker hands from the UTG position because all other players at the table act after them, which increases the chance of someone waking up with a good hand and playing back at them.

Poker Under The Gun Position Example:

The UTG player looked down at Ks Js and decided to raise in Texas Holdem game, even though this is one of the weakest hands he will play from this position.
