A hero in poker is the person through whose perspective we’re observing the hand. The hero is always the protagonist of the retelling, while all other players in the game are called villains.

Hero Poker Example:

If you’re analyzing a hand you didn’t play and want to put yourself in a player’s viewpoint to examine strategies, you would call that player the hero and imagine yourself in their position.
