After a full two weeks of action, the Winter Series wrapped up at PokerStars US. Offering almost $4 million in guaranteed prizes across the board, this was an exciting event to kick the new year off in style.
Players in Pennsylvania got to compete for $1.5 million in guarantees across 75 events, while those playing on the combined PokerStars New Jersey / Michigan platform were in the running for over $2.2 million in guarantees.
On top of big prizes, the series also offered 10 special events in each jurisdiction where winners were awarded limited-edition watches as a lasting reminder of their victories. With all this on the table, it’s no surprise the series saw a great turnout.
Big Bucks for Main Event Winners
As is usually the case, two Main Events headlined the Winter Series at PokerStars US. Both tournaments featured a $300 buy-in, with the MI/NJ event guaranteeing $250,000, while PA players got to play for a prize pool of $200,000.
When it was all said and done, PokerStars MI/NJ Main Event saw 815 entries, falling a bit short of the guarantee. The eventual winner, going under a witty alias “iFoldNot” took home $42,420 for his efforts.
In Pennsylvania, the Main Event met and exceeded its guarantee, attracting 803 entries. The winner in that one, “KymLim,” banked $38,151.
Although the MI / NJ Main didn’t quite make the promise, likely due to a somewhat high entry point, the Winter Series was a success for the operator, and after the rake is added to the tally, even the shortfall in this particular tournament was just a few thousand.
PokerStars US Announces a Big Year Ahead
With the Winter Series and almost $4,000,000 in guaranteed prizes up for grabs, PokerStars US has announced big plans for the year ahead.
The Winter Series received quite a bit of coverage on the operator’s official Twitter profile and was also featured on live streams by PokerStars US ambassadors like David Kaye.
Almost all winners got a shootout on Twitter every single day, which was a really nice touch. The spotlight wasn’t reserved just for those who triumphed in large events, so even low-rollers got their moment in the spotlight.
Players in the three states where PokerStars operates can now look forward to the famous Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP), which usually kicks off at the beginning of March.
But there is an entire month to go before that, so it’s entirely possible the operator will throw in another smaller series into the mix to bridge the gap and keep everyone warmed up for the big action ahead.
Satellites and special Spin & Go events for the upcoming SCOOP will likely appear in the client any day now, giving players a chance to get involved with one of the biggest US online poker series at a discount.
Keep your eyes peeled and your bankroll at the ready for more exciting tournament action coming at PokerStars US, as 2024 promises to be a good year for all MTT fans out there!
