What Is Paint In Poker

In poker, the term “paint” refers to cards with faces on them – jacks, queens, and kings.

These cards can also sometimes be called “picture cards” or face cards since they have pictures of people instead of the simple design with numbers.

Poker players use the term paint when referring to these cards to distinguish them from the lower-ranking cards, sometimes called “number cards” or simply by their number and suit. It is similar to Broadway term, just that paint cards do not include an ace.

Paint cards can have a significant impact on the value of the hand in some forms of poker. For example, paint cards are considered more valuable than number cards (except aces) in Texas Hold 'em and PLO because they make stronger pairs, flushes, and full houses.

The same goes for Seven Card Stud, where hands with three paint cards are quite strong, while poker hands with no paint cards are quite weak.
