What Is ITM In Poker?
In poker, the term “ITM” stands for “in the money” and refers to the stage in a tournament where all the remaining players have reached a payout position.
Or in other words, all players left in the tournament are guaranteed to receive a cash prize.
The exact number of players who make it into the money in a poker tournament will vary depending on the tournament structure, format, and number of entries, but it is usually anywhere from 10 to 20 percent of the total field.
Reaching the ITM stage of a tournament is a noteworthy achievement because it guarantees you a cash prize, which can offer a significant return on your investment. It also means that you have made it to the last 10 or 20 percent of the field, increasing your chances of winning an even larger prize.
Poker ITM Example:
Let’s say there is a $100 buy-in tournament with 100 entrants. The top 10 players will receive a payout, with the first place receiving $1,000 and the remaining 9 players receiving a portion of the remaining prize pool.
As the tournament progresses, players are eliminated one by one. Once the bubble bursts and only 10 players remain in the MTT, the tournament has officially reached the ITM stage, and each of these 10 players is guaranteed a cash prize.
