What Is A Jam In Poker

In poker, “jam” is slang for going all-in, or in other words placing all of your remaining chips into the pot.

When a player jams, he puts all of his chips at risk and cannot make any further actions in the hand.

You must understand what jam means because poker players and commentators use this phrase, and you will have an easier time following the action and understanding what is at stake in a certain poker hand.

Poker Jam Example:

Let’s say that you are playing in a No-Limit Texas Hold’em game, your opponent makes a raise, you 3-bet him, he 4-bet, and you go all in.

In this situation, your action of going all in can also be described as jamming. More specifically, you jammed over the top of your opponent’s 4-bet.
