Rummy is a side bet in some variations of blackjack. A rummy bet allows players to wager on the specific run out of their final hand. The payout for this side bet depends on the combination of cards the player is dealt, with certain combinations offering higher payouts. For instance, if a player decides to make a rummy side bet that they will end up with three cards of the same suit in their hand and they indeed achieve this, they will receive a payout corresponding to the odds associated with that particular combination.
There are a few different types of rummy side bets:
- Run: This is won if three or more cards of the same suit are in sequential order.
- Three of a Kind: This bet is won if the hand contains 3 or more cards of the same rank.
- Three or more Card Flush: It wins if the player has three or more cards of the same suit.
It’s worth noting that, like all side bets at a casino, these bets have a negative expected value. From a blackjack strategy perspective, if you’re trying to minimize losses, you should avoid making rummy bets. But if you’re trying to minimize losses, maybe you wouldn’t be playing blackjack in the first place.
