Eric Persson dropped a bombshell on his Twitter a couple of days ago, announcing he’ll be bringing poker back to the Tropicana casino in Las Vegas.

Persson, who is best known to the wider poker audience as a brazen high-stakes player, is also the founder of Maverick Gaming, a successful gambling business that owns a number of casinos across the United States.

It seems that the company will add another venue to its growing portfolio, but this particular one will focus on poker rather than slots and casino table games.

First Poker Games Since 2013

Tropicana used to host poker games but moved away from them a long time ago. The last time the casino dealt a poker hand was back in 2013. It is interesting to note that Jamie Gold, the 2006 WSOP Main Event winner, was an ambassador for the venue for a while.

Now, poker will be returning to Tropicana, and according to the press release from the company, the new venue will be named Maverick Gaming Poker Room.

In the tweet breaking out the big news, Eric Persson touted the new room as the best place for low-stakes action, with lower rake and a variety of rewards and promotions players can look forward to.

To achieve this, Maverick Gaming has partnered up with Bally’s Corporation, a gaming giant that owns the Tropicana Resort and Casino. However, it seems that the high-roller has goals that go beyond just running another poker room in Sin City.

More Live Streamed Action on the Way

Bally’s Corporation has recently announced plans for the Bally’s Big Bet Poker Show, which will be aired from a studio located next to the Tropicana. The new show should replace the famous Live at the Bike, one of the longest-running and most popular poker live streams.

The new partnership will see Persson himself join the action at the Big Bet Poker tables, taking up some of the poker’s best and biggest names, as he’s been known to do over the past few years.

These combined efforts should result in more exciting (and completely free) content for all the fans of the game out there.

While Big Bet Poker will host high-stakes players, Hollywood celebrities, and sports stars, the vision for the new Maverick Gaming Poker Room isn’t that of exclusivity.

According to the press release, the company will strive to create an atmosphere where everyone can feel welcome, offering those new to poker an opportunity to learn the ropes and enjoy themselves with plenty of promotions and giveaways.

The Big Bet Poker show will be making a debut in June, which is when fans will get to enjoy some high-stakes action and watch Persson and others going at it playing for some massive pots.

The Tropicana live room will open its doors a few months later, and it will be interesting to see how it does against the fierce competition on the Strip.

There is certainly no lack of poker action in Las Vegas, but Eric’s vision and his love for the game may prove to be the winning combination to bring poker back to the Trop in style!
