If you like gambling, you probably know some of the world's gambling capitals, such as Las Vegas, Monte Carlo, and Macau. However, the world’s biggest casino is not located in any of them, and the location of this complex will definitely surprise you.
With a massive size of more than 600,000 square feet, WinStar World Casino holds the title of the world’s largest casino, and it’s located in Thackerville, Oklahoma!
You read that right; the biggest casino in the world is located in the middle of nowhere, on Native American land, and isn’t on any well-known gambling trail at all.
This casino first opened up back in 2003 and then underwent a massive expansion ten years later. This expansion created a complex with more than 1,500 hotel rooms, thousands of slot machines, and numerous other amenities.
Those visiting WinStar World Casino will be able to enjoy golfing on a professional golf course, ride bulls, or dine in one of the numerous restaurants located within the complex.
While it may be a casino at the most basic level, this place definitely offers a complete vacation experience that just about anyone can enjoy. Even if you are bringing your kids with, they will have great fun without ever stepping foot on the actual casino floor.
2. Venetian Macau – One of the World’s Biggest Casinos

- Year Opened: 2007
- Location: Macau, China
- Casino Size: 546,000 sq. ft.
- Slot Machines: 2,000
- Gaming Tables: 500+
The beauty of Venetian Macau is not rivaled by many entertainment sites anywhere in the world. The casino was created to largely resemble the Las Vegas version, with the size being the biggest difference between the two.
Venetian Macau, as the name suggests, is themed after the beautiful Italian city of Venice. Within the complex, visitors can stay in one of the hundreds of luxurious hotel rooms, play slots and card games on the 546,000 square feet of gaming area, and dine in Michelin-starred restaurants that offer world-class service and dining.
On top of the hundreds of thousands of square feet of gaming area, the complex also contains well over a million square feet of convention space and 3.000 suites that can be used by gamblers and other visitors alike.
Macau is world-famous for baccarat action, and you will hardly find more of it anywhere else in the world. Venetian Macau was the biggest casino in the world when it first opened its door back in 2007 and was only overtaken by WinStar World Casino after its renovation.
3. MGM Cotai – Third Largest Casino in the World
Source: MGM.mo
- Year Opened: 2018
- Location: Macau, China
- Casino Size: 500,000 sq ft
- Slot Machines: 1,500
- Gaming Tables: 175+
Only opened in 2018, MGM Cotai is the second property that MGM Resorts International opened in the Asian gambling Mecca, Macau.
MGM Cotai offers gambling on a floor sized approximately 500,000 square feet, which hosts some 1,500 slot machines, close to 200 gambling tables, and more.
The complex cost a total of $3.4 Billion to build and is one of the most expensive and most beautiful properties on the Cotai Strip, the Chinese version of the Las Vegas Strip.
Apart from the gaming area, which is impressive in itself, MGM Cotai offers a luxurious spa center, a $100 Million theater, and beautiful art displays that rival some of the best museums in the world.
This casino is made with the middle classes in mind and is by no means a VIP-only place. In fact, VIPs are probably better off looking elsewhere in Macau. MGM Cotai is a great vacation destination for just about any tourist looking for entertainment and gambling at reasonable prices.
4. City of Dreams – Another Huge Casino In China
Source: Cityofdreamsmanilla.com
- Year Opened: 2009
- Location: Macau, China
- Casino Size: 420,000 sq ft
- Slot Machines: 1.450
- Gaming Tables: 500+
A direct competitor to Venetian Macau, City of Dreams, opened its doors in 2009 and has since been offering luxurious entertainment for all on its 420,000-foot gaming floor.
Like most other famous Macau properties, City of Dreams is located on the popular Cotai Strip. The casino is owned by the world-renowned Melco Resorts & Entertainment.
City of Dreams features an interesting design, with the main casino area located within the main platform and four towers around it holding some of the city’s most well-known hotels.
Within the City of Dreams complex, you will find Hard Rock Hotel, the Grand Hyatt Hotel, and the Crown Towers, all hosting hundreds of hotel rooms and suites for all visitors.
The gaming area itself contains some 1,500 slot machines and 450 gaming tables spreading all popular games like roulette, baccarat, and blackjack.
While visiting Macau, you will be able to enjoy not only gambling for any stakes you desire but also amazing food in any one of City of Dreams' 20+ restaurants.
Other attractions that CoD offers its visitors include an 11-ton aquarium, a dancing water theater, a bubble fountain, and more. Reaching City of Dreams is easy, as all sorts of transportation are offered for visitors who arrive in Macau, taking them straight to the complex.
5. Wynn Palace – One More Mega Casino Located In Macau
Source: wynnpalace.com
- Year Opened: 2016
- Location: Macau, China
- Casino Size: 420,000 sq ft
- Slot Machines: 1,000
- Gaming Tables: 350+
Yet another Cotai Strip casino to make it onto our list of the largest casinos in the world, Wynn Palace offers a gaming space nearly identical in size to that of City of Dreams.
Wynn Palace was opened in 2016 and is thus one of the more recent additions to the incredible Macau skyline.
If you are confusing this place with Wynn Macau, don't, as they are not the same property, and Wynn Resorts now owns two major casinos on the Cotai Strip.
Like most other casinos in Macau, Wynn Palace is not just a casino, and it features much more than just a gaming floor. The 28-story hotel is available for guests, with more than 1.700 rooms of all shapes and sizes ready for you to test them out.
Salons, pools, and the largest spa center in all of Macau are available at Wynn Palace. Apart from that, of course, you can enjoy fine dining as well as fast food in one of the dozens of restaurants available within the complex.
Moving on to gambling, the casino itself offers some 1,000 slot machines and 350 gaming tables, which is slightly less than some of the competitors. However, this is exactly why you will feel freer at Wynn Palace, as there is simply more breathing room on the immense floor.
6. Galaxy Macau – One of the Biggest World’s Casinos in Asia
Source: galaxymacau.com
- Year Opened: 2011
- Location: Macau, China
- Casino Size: 400,000 sq ft
- Slot Machines: 1,500
- Gaming Tables: 650+
Owned by Galaxy Entertainment, Galaxy Macau may not be the most famous Macau casino, but it is one of the largest ones.
With 400,000 square feet of gambling area and six hotels you can stay in, this resort offers a little something for everyone's taste.
Galaxy Macau was first opened in 2011, and further renovations ensued in 2016 and 2018, making it the amazing complex it is today.
As I already mentioned, you can pick which one of the six hotels you will stay at, with the biggest one being managed by Galaxy Entertainment itself and other smaller hotels run by Hyatt, Marriott, and others.
Once you are well settled in, you can take to the actual gambling area, which contains an impressive selection of over 1,500 slot machines and more than 600 gaming tables, which is more than many of the bigger properties on the Cotai Strip.
You can have fun playing blackjack, baccarat, roulette, and many other popular games.
On top of that, Galaxy Macau also features one of the best poker rooms in all of Macau, spreading cash games and tournaments at all levels and for players of different preferences and financial means.
7. Foxwoods Resort Casino – The Biggest Casino In The USA
Source: foxwoods.com
- Year Opened: 1992
- Location: Mashantucket Pequot Tribe Reservation, Connecticut, USA
- Casino Size: 340,000 sq ft
- Slot Machines: 3,500
- Gaming Tables: 250+
We are already at number 7 on our list of the world's largest casinos, and we are yet to step foot in Las Vegas. That has not changed with this one, as Foxwoods is located in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
For many years, Foxwoods was one of the largest casinos in the world, but the opening of various Macau-based casinos pushed it well down the list.
Foxwoods remains the second-largest tribal casino, which means it is located on land that belongs to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, which makes gambling there a tad bit different.
Regardless of this, Foxwoods offers high-class gambling and allows its guests to stay in one of over 2,200 hotel rooms spread across several hotels.
The actual gaming area stands at an impressive 344,000 square feet, which may fade away in comparison to the Macau giants, but is massive by any other comparison.
Within that space, you can find more than 5,500 gaming machines, which is a number that actually blows other casinos out of the water, and game selection is just as incredible.
Over 200 gaming tables are also available, and while other amenities may not be as luxurious as you may find in other places, you will feel right at home if you are here to gamble.
8. Wynn Macau – One More Mega Casino In Asia
Source: wynnmacau.com
- Year Opened: 2006
- Location: Macau, China
- Casino Size: 273,000 sq ft
- Slot Machines: 1,000
- Gaming Tables: 100+
I already mentioned that Wynn owns two properties in Macau, and this is the other one. Named simply Wynn Macau, it was the first property that the world-famous entertainment company launched on the Cotai Strip back in 2006.
Wynn Macau is significantly smaller than Wynn Palace Cotai, with a gaming floor of “just” 273,000 square feet.
That space is enough to fit in some 1,000 gaming machines and numerous gaming tables featuring Pai Gow poker, blackjack, roulette wheels, and more, in addition to luxurious hotel accommodations.
The complex has received the Forbes Five-Star award eight times, which is an impressive feat for a resort of this size and magnitude.
Aside from gaming and hotel rooms, the Wynn Macau resort also offers pools, spas, eight different restaurants, and various other surprises that you will be happy to explore and enjoy during your stay.
9. Ponte 16 – Another of the Top 10 World’s Biggest Casinos Located in China
Source: worldcasinodirectory
- Year Opened: 2008
- Location: Macau, China
- Casino Size: 270,000 sq ft
- Slot Machines: 300
- Gaming Tables: 100+
We seem to keep going back to Macau very often, but that’s simply because the Macau skyline is absolutely mind-boggling even when compared to Las Vegas.
With 270,000 square feet of gaming space, Ponte 16 is still much bigger than any casino resort you will find in Nevada or Atlantic City.
Unlike some of the other resorts I already listed, Ponte 16 is located in the Inner Harbor area, which means it sits right next to the water and is away from the hustle and bustle of the Cotai Strip.
That does not prevent it from offering impressive gaming amenities, even if the 300 slot machines and 100 tables it offers slightly fade away compared to the Cotai Strip casinos.
Ponte 16 offers a more intimate experience for visitors and gamblers who prefer some luxury and peace. This may be just the resort you will want to visit with your significant other at some point.
Ponte 16 is well equipped to host all types of guests, with a luxurious French-themed hotel, spas and swimming pools for those looking for rest, and a dedicated kids' area for those times when you want to hit the tables and need to keep your little ones occupied for a while.
10. Rio Casino Resort – One of the World’s Largest Casinos at a Surprising Location
Source: riocasino.co.za
- Year Opened: 2002
- Location: Klerksdorp, South Africa
- Casino Size: 266,000 sq ft
- Slot Machines: 270
- Gaming Tables: 12
If you expected all of the world's largest casinos to be found in Macau or the USA, you were wrong. The number 10 on my list is an absolute gem, and it's located in South Africa, of all places.
With 266,000 square feet of gambling area, Rio Casino Resort is the largest casino in Africa and one of the largest ones in the southern hemisphere in general.
You may not associate South Africa with gambling, and you would be right. Rio Casino Resort is reserved for visitors from around the world looking to have a good time and enjoy some gambling action.
Formerly known as Tusk Rio Casino Resort, this complex is located in Klerksdorp, and it was opened back in 2002 when its place on the list of the biggest casinos in the world was even higher.
The casino resort is absolutely beautiful and quite a bit different than anything you may see in the more popular gambling locations. All architecture is authentic to the South African location, and it offers a vibe you will not experience in any other casino.
When it comes to the actual gambling experience, you will be limited to about 250 slot machines and some ten gambling tables, which is not impressive compared to the competitors but means that you will have a more intimate experience and more space for yourself.
11. Sands Macau – One Of The Most Popular Casinos In Macau
Source: sandscasino.com
- Year Opened: 2004
- Location: Macau, China
- Casino Size: 229,000 sq ft
- Slot Machines: 1.000
- Gaming Tables: 200+
Just as we leave Macau, our path takes us back. Sands Macau is owned by the famous Las Vegas Sands Corporation and was opened back in 2004 when Macau was not yet the gambling Mecca it is today.
While the cost of construction for some of the Macau casinos was in the billions of dollars, Sands Macau only cost $240 Million to launch back in the day and has proven to be an incredibly shrewd investment for the now largely Chinese-owned corporation.
Sands Macau is not as massive as some of the Cotai Strip properties, but it does feature 229,000 square feet of gambling space and close to 300 hotel rooms, which is a lot by standards of any normal-sized casino.
Some 1,000 slot machines and 200 gaming tables are available on the floor, with various popular fast-food restaurants and drinking halls available throughout the complex.
12. MGM Macau – The Last China's Huge Casino In The List
Source: wsj.com
- Year Opened: 2007
- Location: Macau, China
- Casino Size: 222,000 sq ft
- Slot Machines: 835
- Gaming Tables: 400+
From reading through this list, you can clearly see that Macau has completely changed the way casino resorts operate worldwide, and MGM Macau is no exception.
With a gaming area of 220,000 square feet, MGM Macau is far from the biggest casino in the city, but it’s still bigger than any you will find in Las Vegas.
The casino is owned by MGM Resorts International and Pansy Ho, the daughter of Stanley Ho, who is one of China's biggest entertainment magnates.
MGM Macau was first built in 2007, and after some ownership debates, the current status was established in 2011.
Today, MGM Macau hosts some 850 slot machines and 400 roulette and card tables offering all sorts of games, including always-popular Ultimate Texas Hold’em. This should be more than enough to satisfy all but the most hard-core gambling aficionados.
The resort’s 12 restaurants offer food from different cuisines, while the spa and relaxation areas allow for rest and enjoyment with friends and family away from the gambling action.
13. Crown Casino – One of the World’s Largest Casinos in the South
Source: agbrief.com
- Year Opened: 1997
- Location: Melbourne, Australia
- Casino Size: 220,000 sq ft
- Slot Machines: 3,500
- Gaming Tables: 500+
Going back to the southern hemisphere, we visit beautiful Melbourne and its famous Crown Casino. Australia may not be the number one country in terms of its gambling industry, but Crown Casino is world-famous and pips all Las Vegas casinos in size and magnitude.
While Rio Casino Resort in South Africa offers a bigger gaming area, Crown Casino is a much bigger resort, with more than 1,600 hotel rooms and countless other facilities available.
Crown Casino Melbourne features modern architecture and a glamorous style that attracts not only gamblers but other visitors from across the world, including countless A-list celebrities such as Tiger Woods. Phil Ivey has also had a lot of success at this location.
If you are thinking of visiting Australia at any point, I highly recommend staying at Crown Casino at least for a couple of nights, as you are guaranteed to experience luxury and relaxation beyond your imagination.
14. MGM Grand – Barely Making it onto the List of the Biggest Casinos in the World
Source: worldcasinodirectory.com
- Year Opened: 1993
- Location: Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
- Casino Size: 170,000 sq ft
- Slot Machines: 2,300
- Gaming Tables: 20+
It is quite incredible that the first Las Vegas casino to appear on the list of the world’s largest casinos shows up at number 14, but it’s the truth.
MGM Grand is the largest casino on the Las Vegas Strip and the twelfth largest in the world, with a total of 170,000 square feet of gambling area.
To be fair, MGM Grand opened its doors back in 1993, and at the time, it was an absolute game-changer, with a size that was not rivaled by any others anywhere in the world.
Things did change a lot over the years, and many new properties were built around the world. However, MGM Grand remains one of the top gambling locations in the world for those in the know.
The relatively “small” gambling floor is packed with more than 3,000 slot machines and 200 gambling tables, which means there is some action going on anywhere you turn.
Aside from this, other amenities include 15 restaurants, pools, a spa center, a nightclub, a shopping area, and special VIP lounges and poker rooms, making the resort one of the best places to be during your Las Vegas trip.
15. Casino Lisboa – The World's Largest Casino in Europe
Source: worldcasinodirectory.com
- Year Opened: 2006
- Location: Lisbon, Portugal
- Casino Size: 165,000 sq ft
- Slot Machines: 1,000
- Gaming Tables: 25+
To conclude this list, I will finally include an actual European casino as well. You may be thinking that it's located in Monte Carlo, but as the name suggests, it's actually a Portuguese casino located in Lisbon.
You probably never thought of Lisbon as much of a gambling city, but Casino Lisboa is not only the largest casino in Europe but also one of the landmarks of the city.
First opened in 2006, Casino Lisboa offers 16,000 square feet of gambling space, containing some 1,000 slot machines and about 25 gaming tables, which is quite normal for European casinos.
The adjacent hotel is quite impressive as well, with 1,000 hotel rooms available for guests, who tend to gather from all parts of the world to soak in the beauty of Lisbon and enjoy some action on the gambling floor.
Pick Your Destination from These World’s Largest Casinos
If you paid close attention, it might seem to you that Macau is the only place you want to visit to enjoy gambling, as that's where most of the largest casinos in the world are located.
However, don't let that fact fool you. Macau is certainly impressive, and I highly recommend you visit if you enjoy gambling, but Las Vegas, Monte Carlo, Atlantic City, and other locations should also be on your list.
If you get the time, the money, and the will, visiting all 15 mega-casinos I listed here will be a real thrill. Each one of them has something unique to offer, and you will have a great time exploring these slight differences that stem from the cultures of different nations that host them and other factors.
